Today was my first day teaching in the classroom. My plan for the lesson was based on exploration and discovery through movement, so we focused upon body movements and ways to travel through the space.

But to begin the lesson, we sat down on the rug so I could introduce myself and our dancing activities for the day.

We went over our dancing rules, which are:

Dancing Rules:

1. Follow Instructions.

2. Respect Classmates, Teacher, and Equipment.

3. Try Your Best.

Afterwards, we dove right into our lesson, which focused upon 4 main areas:

-Body: Locomotor Steps, (walk, run, skip, jump, leap, slide, gallop) and Shapes.

-Energy: Show Me (excited, tired, hungry, sad, happy, crazy)

-Space: Pathways, Levels, and Direction.

-Time: Show Me (slow, medium, fast)

We worked on creating a movement sequence to represent different animals, using different pathways, levels, and locomotor steps, having each student learn to move similar to their favorite animal.

We then worked on creating a movement sequence to represent different modes of travel, such as airplanes, cars, and trains, using pathways levels, and locomotor steps. Each student created their own movement sequence of how they imagined it would feel to move like a car, bicycle, etc..

We finished our dancing day by me asking questions to understand what they had liked or disliked about the lesson, as well as what they learned. I asked questions such as:

-“What was your favorite part of today's dancing lesson?”

-“What is your favorite level?"

-What was your favorite way to move around the classroom?

-What was your favorite pathway to use?”

All in all it was a good first day where we were able to explore different ways of moving our bodies and how we can incorporate those into movement sequences.
