Here it is! The day that we have all been waiting for, working towards, and been so excited for. It is performance day!
I arrived at the school about half an hour early to be sure that everything was going well, to help with costumes, and to get the kids excited and ready to perform. The kids were all talking excitedly about the day when I got there, and they had a lot of energy which made me excited to see them perform. I helped to get their costumes ready and reminded them to stand in line quietly so we could be ready when the time came to go to the gym, were they were going to perform for the student body.
After each student was ready with their costumes and were standing in their lines ready to go on, we lined up in the hallway and waited until we felt ready to go into the gym. We all went to the school's gym and got set up. The students found their assigned spots on the stage, and we got them all ready to perform. About half an hour later, our audience began to enter into the gym.
The Kindergarten Christmas Concert had two performances. The first performance started at 9:00, and this was a performance for the school, the students body, and the staff and administration of Wasatch Elementary. All the other grades in the school came to the gym, settled in seats, and watched the kindergarteners perform. The second performance was an hour later and this performance was set for the parents, family, and guardians of the kindergarteners and anyone else who wanted to come and see us perform. I could tell that the kindergarteners were a little nervous, but once the music started they began to dance and they did a great job! The school was loving it, laughing and cheering, and because the entire gym was full of students, our kindergarteners felt very supported and it was clear that their audience was having a good time watching them dance and sing. I was so proud of them!
They did the whole show, which consisted of 6 dance numbers, one in Spanish, one in sign language, and the others in english. I thought that this was very important because it allowed our students opportunities to experiment with these languages, cultures, and ways of movement. I felt that the variety of dances was a great way to help the students become more acquainted with different methods of dance, communication, and movement and the students really seemed to enjoy learning, practicing, and performing these dances And each of the musical numbers. These dances were set to a popular Christmas song that the students knew and were able to sing and dance to. There was also the use of simple instruments in one of the dances as well, which helped our students learn about these instruments, how to use them to rhythm, and how to manage them appropriately both on and off stage.
All in all, the first performance for the school and the student body was a huge success and it was clear that both the students, audience, and teachers had a great time.
After they finished their performance, the school cheered and clapped for the performers. I was so proud of the performers! They did such a great job and they remembered to smile and have fun on stage. They did a great job!
But of course, we were not done, because we still had one more show to do.
